black issue or women’s issue?

February 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I didn’t care much for this whole Chris Brown VS Rihanna issue that’s been plastered over the news this past month. It seemed like one of those issues that was scandalized and dramatized by the media.

Until i stumbled upon Rihanna’s myspace and found a comment like this:

kid

“what did u do to chris brown to make him do that and i think u lyin i love chris brown and if i dont go to one of his concerts b4 im 16 [hur hur] then ima hate [you?] for eva dang bald head self and u can block me wit yo stupid self dang”
[note: i dont give a shit if i don't have his permission. he put the comment and (in my opinion) ridiculous picture on the internet.]

What the hell is wrong with youth these days? I mean, just listen to what some of them had to say about this:

Hey, want to learn something?

The leading cause of death for African American women ages 15 to 45 is intimate partner homicide.

More than any illness, more than smoking, drugs, heart disease, or any other leading cause of death.

That’s 35% more than white people.

Why are black men killing black women? Why is the black community asking “what did she do to provoke him?” and offering defenses in the case of chris brown?

Hey! another fact: the police are considering filing charges of attempted murder because he beat her THAT badly.

And we’re saying “she gave gim herpes”, “she was a drama queen”, “she hit him too” (where are his bruises?) and “she’s LYING!” (I suppose she beat herself?)

Why does it seem like black female youth are offering reasons to defend the fact that this man nearly killed his girlfriend?

In one way, you can look at it as a way to seperate yourself from the victim. You can say “well she did this, and so that’s why it happened. I don’t do that, therefore I’m different.”

Furthermore, why does it seem like no black right’s groups are targetting this issue? Who does this issue belong to anyways: black rights or women’s rights?

Furthermore, does it really fucking matter?

A black man beat his black girlfriend near to death. Black-on-black crime is incredibly high, and the murder rates for black women by domestic abuse is extremely high, especially compared to whites.

Why won’t any black rights groups look at this issue? Are they afraid of the numbers or the bad light they’ll be put under? Do they simply not care?

Oh, I guess they’re too busy whining about that racist obama doll. I guess it was different when they did it to George Bush, because he’s white.

In fact, most people seem to think this shouldn’t be the black right’s group’s “problem”, because this issue is a women’s issue.

Except domestic abuse is not a women’s issue, it’s a human’s issue.

Oh fuck it, send them back to Africa.
